  AgustaWestland

"Project Zero" is an unmanned, all-electric tiltrotor aircraft designed by AgustaWestland that hovers like a helicopter and converts to a fixed-wing aircraft in forward flight. The project offers a look into the future of advanced rotorcraft. AgustaWestland relied on Wind River® VxWorks® 653 Platform and Wind River Professional Services to design, develop, build, and test Project Zero in six months.

 Case study

To meet the challenges of a safety critical touch screen avionics display system for a military helicopter upgrade program, AgustaWestland used a standards-based approach based on ARINC 653 and ARINC 661, with the VxWorks 653 real-time operating system (RTOS) and Presagis VAPS XT-178 DO-178B/C-qualifiable human–machine interface (HMI) tool suite to overcome hardware obsolescence and reduce operational and through-life costs.
