Toshiba Joins Wind River Center of Excellence Semiconductor Partner Program
Industry Leaders Partner to Create Optimized Embedded Development Solutions for Digital Imaging, Broadband Access, and Digital AV Devices
EMBEDDED MICROPROCESSOR FORUM, SAN JOSE, Calif., April, 29, 2002 - Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: WIND), a leading provider of software and services for connected devices, and Toshiba Corporation, one of Japans largest electronics companies and Japans leader in semiconductors, today announced that Toshiba has joined the Wind River MIPS Center of Excellence semiconductor partner program. Toshiba and Wind River have signed a multi-year agreement to facilitate the development, optimization, marketing, and distribution of Wind Rivers market-leading embedded software products and development tools across Toshibas TX System RISC processors. The partnership is part of Wind Rivers strategy to build close relationships with key semiconductor partners and targets products in the digital consumer electronics market including those in the digital imaging, broadband access, and digital audio-video (AV) market segments.
Through the MIPS Center of Excellence program, Toshiba and Wind River are combining engineering and marketing resources to jointly develop optimized product solutions for Toshibas TX System RISC processors. This strategic initiative will deliver specialized solutions, allowing customers to leverage the latest advances in Toshiba technology alongside advanced software support from Wind River. The first offering will integrate Wind Rivers VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS) and Tornado II integrated development environment (IDE) with Toshibas TX49 family including the TX4927, TX4955 and TX4925 processors.
We believe this strategic partnership agreement with Wind River will make our TX System RISC more powerful in providing the customers with reliable and adaptable solutions, contributing to their faster time-to-market and further product differentiation, said Yutaka Murao, Technology Executive of Toshiba Corporation Semiconductor Company.
Toshiba has emerged as a key semiconductor supplier in many of the same vertical markets targeted by Wind River, and is an especially popular choice among our Japanese digital consumer customers, said Dave Sheaffer, senior director of Wind Rivers Strategic Alliance group. Through the Center of Excellence partnership, we are working closely with Toshiba to ensure timely availability of leading embedded software that is fully optimized for each Toshiba TX System RISC processor. We look forward to providing our joint customers with a full complement of embedded operating systems and runtime components, software and hardware development tools, and connectivity solutions that will enable them to focus on differentiating their products and getting to market as quickly as possible.
Toshiba and Wind River have created a dedicated team of engineers committed to the optimization and deployment of new products for mutual customers. The Wind River / Toshiba Joint Steering Committee ensures a long-term, solutions-based roadmap with tighter integration between Toshiba processors and Wind Rivers software development tools and integrated software solutions. In addition to porting Wind Rivers Tornado IDE and VxWorks RTOS, work is currently underway to integrate and optimize other Wind River products including the Diab C/C++ compiler suite and visionPROBE / visionICE on-chip debug tools. In addition, host development tools will be made available for Toshiba processors including WindView , StethoScope, and CodeTEST enabling developers to graphically visualize their system and test and debug system-level issues.
Toshiba joins IDT, Broadcom Corp., AMD, MIPS Technologies, NEC Electronics Inc. and PMC-Sierra as members of Wind Rivers MIPS Center of Excellence program.
Wind Rivers Tornado IDE, VxWorks RTOS and associated development solutions for Toshibas TX49 processors will be available for early access release (EAR) in August 2002, with general customer shipments to follow shortly thereafter.
