Wind River Studio Virtual Lab Wins Military+Aerospace Electronics Innovators Award 2024 Silver Honoree

Embedded developers have unique challenges with getting products to market or systems fielded for use. For most, having a test bench stocked with target hardware at every developer’s workstation is a dream they cannot fulfill. Development boards or systems are not always available when system software needs to begin development, or if they are, often they are not in sufficient quantity for the entire team. Remote employees or geographically dispersed teams complicate access to development hardware. These become speed bumps to on time program delivery, not to mention stretch goals like shifting debug and test to earlier in the cycle.

Wind River listened to our customers and developed Wind River Studio Virtual Lab, a remotely accessible management platform for both physical and simulated development systems and boards. A module within the Studio Developer suite, cloud-native Virtual Lab delivers secure, scalable testing and verification earlier in the cycle even when hardware is unavailable.

System configurations can be standardized to improve testing consistency and quality. Access to development boards can be optimized to maximize the return on investment in hardware development resources. Managers can also maximize hardware utilization by enabling access to resources from manual and automated workflows. At the same time, both physical and virtual resource access is secured, with a single pane of glass for scheduling and management. Meeting development and test time and budget plans are more assured.

Recently, Studio Virtual Lab was named by Military+Aerospace Electronics (MAE) as the Innovator’s Award Silver Honoree. MAE measured honorees based on the impact to product development and delivery based on innovative, unique capabilities. By targeting a large challenge early in the development cycle, Studio Virtual Lab can indeed have an outsized benefit to on time, on budget system delivery.
