Wind River Automotive Technology a Contender for MWC GLOMO Awards

Connected and autonomous vehicle technologies are becoming more prevalent, and the rate of this innovation continues to rapidly accelerate for the automotive industry. These next generation vehicles will need to be connected and updateable in order to intelligently communicate with and safely navigate the world around it, continuously deliver new features and value over time, and be able to quickly respond to cyber-threats.

Not surprisingly, the automotive and telecommunications worlds are coming together with increasing speed. As such, it is quite a distinction to have our Wind River Edge Sync technology selected by the GSMA as a finalist for the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) in the Best Mobile Innovation for Automotive category. Winners will be revealed at Mobile World Congress (MWC) taking place February 25-28 in Barcelona. If you’re familiar with the event, I’m sure you know that the MWC event (produced by the GSMA) is akin to the Super Bowl for the telecommunications industry.

Edge Sync is a software platform for remote Over-The-Air (OTA) updates and Software Lifecycle Management. It allows for rapid, safe and secure updates to software and firmware throughout the vehicle’s entire lifetime from initial development through to end-of-life. Edge Sync enables fast, cost-effective solutions for software related updates, corrections to security vulnerabilities, and feature-related recalls. Edge Sync also provides car makers with a platform for post deployment monetization leveraging insights from vehicle data, and a way to extend a car’s value with the introduction of new features over time.
