One Tin Soldier Rides Away....

Not quite a year ago, Mars was in the news.  Opportunity had made it
to a new milestone – Victoria Crater.  Among the issues being discussed
at the time was: will we send the rover down into this crater, from
which it would likely never return.  I posted my own feelings in an
entry titled Precipice.

My feelings haven’t changed.  I’m still amazed at what we’ve managed
to achieve.  I still feel a bit mixed about sending this rover to it’s
eventual doom.  And I still know in my heart that it’s The Right Thing
to do; it’s what we sent it there for, and there’s not going to be any
better ..opportunities.. to get this much information.
