Wind River to Support Development of Military Communications Device by EADS CASA for Airbus A400M and MRTT Tanker
"Throughout our history, EADS-CASA has consistently designed and manufactured aircraft that are competitive in the global aerospace market," said Enrique Martin Martinez, EADS-CASA/Military Transport Aircraft Division systems software manager, CASA. "Our previous experience building applications with Wind River device software, including Platform for Safety Critical has instilled in us the confidence that we can continue to develop certifiable equipment quickly and efficiently, increasing our teams' productivity."
The MIC is general purpose equipment for the Airbus A400M and MRTT programs, managing and exchanging all Link 16 data, which allows military aircraft, ships and army units to exchange tactical information in real-time between MIDS radio units and a secure military bus or network. EADS-CASA will develop the MIC using Wind River Platform for Safety Critical DO-178B on ARINC 600 equipment using PowerPC processors on compact PCI boards. Wind River Platform for Safety Critical DO-178B will enableEADS-CASA also to develop its own certifiable board support packages, a bootable operating system, bootloader and set of device drivers for all the devices on board.
Wind River Platform for Safety Critical DO-178B delivers the stringent foundation A&D companies need to address the safety aspects of mission-critical applications. Offering complete DO-178B certification evidence, the platform is based on the industry-leading VxWorks operating system and backed by Wind River's 20+ years of device software experience, a broad network of hardware and software partners, a world-class support organization and a specialized professional services team.
"Wind River Platform for Safety Critical delivers the rigorous basis that A&D companies need to address the safety aspects of their mission-critical applications," said Federico De Sario, region director of Southwestern Europe, Wind River. "By adopting Wind River, companies like EADS-CASA can benefit from our platforms' ability to develop standards-compliant applications quickly and efficiently. We are very pleased to EADS CASA is continuing to rely on Wind River as a key partner in meeting the challenges of this rapidly evolving market.
